Curious about what goes on during breast lift surgery? A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that comes in a variety of techniques designed to correct and reorient the appearance of the breast.
First, anesthesia is administered as local with IV sedation or as general anesthesia – a double-board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Shafer will make the right recommendation to you.
A circular incision will likely be made around the areola. Another may be made vertically down from this. A horizontal incision on the breast crease may also be added.
The breast is then reshaped by repositioning the nipple and areola, lifting underlying tissue, removing excess tissue, and, if necessary, shrinking the enlarged areola by removing skin from the perimeter. The incisions are finally closed with sutures, skin adhesives or surgical tape.
Immediately after the procedure, your initial results will be obvious, but as you recover, receding swelling and fading incisions lines will reveal your final lasting look.
