Valentine’s Day is upon us, and many of us take this time to do something special with our loved ones. Some may make reservations at a swanky restaurant while others may prefer to cuddle up by the fireplace and reminisce on good times. But many couples this year are trying out something a little bit different than your ordinary V-Day festivities. Several happy lovers are going under the knife for plastic surgery together.
Studies show there’s a recent trend hitting the nation by storm. Couples are seeking to undergo cosmetic treatments together at an increasing rate. In fact, in the past five years, has increased by a whopping 30 percent. But how exactly do these pair procedure work?
Unlike a couples massage, where the pair will be in the same room together getting worked on by two different masseuses, couples plastic surgery procedure are not done side by side for health and safety purposes. One person will usually go in first and wait for their partner to recover, then they will go in for their treatment.
The concept is mostly centered on the idea that both partners want to look and feel their best. While cosmetic procedures like liposuction and facelifts were once reserved solely for women, these days, an increasing number of men are turning to plastic surgery to regain a youthful appearance. This means that if their partners are going to get some work done, men will be much more likely to follow suit.
Moreover, a lot of men are thinking, “Hey, if my wife looks good, I want to look good too!” It’s hard to see your partner look 10 to 15 years younger and not want the same for yourself, especially since the stigma of male plastic surgery is no longer an issue. Hence, the birth of the burgeoning couples plastic surgery trend.
Getting surgery together is also a way for a couple to bond. No matter what the procedure may be, it’s nice being able to share in the experience with your partner and having your significant under understand exactly what you are going through.
“I think it’s a great experience to grow younger together,” said Ira Almeas to TODAY interviewers.
Back in 2011, Almeas and his wife Roberta decided they both wanted to look and feel their best, so they decided on getting Botox, fillers and laser treatments together. Now, they couldn’t be happier.
“We feel a little bit more refreshed, a little bit more energy, and it’s just another part of our life together that we’re sharing,” added Almeas.
In all honesty, it’s not really that surprising that couples are going under the knife together. Mother-daughter plastic surgery has long since been a popular trend, especially here in New York. It’s only natural for partners to want to share in such an intimate and personal experience together.
So does the couple that gets surgery together stay together? Well, the jury is still out on that one. One thing is for sure though, shared experiences tend to bring couples together, so it’s only fitting that duo cosmetic surgery would have the same result.
