The Olympics are here and what better way to reflect on the progress of the current games than by reminiscing about past ones. Each year, athletes shine for their incredible abilities and endurance, but with each generation, there are a few Olympians that stand out from the crowd. In the 70s, that was Bruce Jenner.
Jenner was a track athlete that won the gold medal in the Decathlon event at the 1976 Summer Olympics held in Montreal, Canada. Following his Olympic victory, Jenner started stepping into the spotlight, which at the time, was unheard of for an Olympic athlete. He ended up trading the track for a life in show business, and by the 1980s, had already become a TV star. But as many stars in the limelight have done before him, Jenner began dabbling in plastic surgery.
His first cosmetic procedure was in 1984, when Jenner went in for a nose job but and was allegedly ill-advised to have a partial facelift as well. Following the surgeries, Jenner became the subject of tabloid fodder and after marrying his now estranged wife Kris, it only went downhill from there.
In an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Jenner revealed he had been unhappy with the results of his facelift and after much consideration, underwent a corrective facelift in 2009. He seemed to be satisfied with the results, but was that truly the end of Jenner’s plastic surgery musings?
Sources are claiming Jenner is becoming addicted to plastic surgery. But is the media scrutinizing the former athlete just a little too much? At 64, Jenner would certainly not be the first person to consider getting cosmetic work done. In this day and age, a greater number of celebrities are coming clean about their plastic surgery past, and many of them are men.
There is no shame in Jenner seeking additional cosmetic procedures, but unfortunately, he has already suffered the brunt of the public’s criticism for his past facelift. These days, corrective plastic surgery procedures are very common. While it is rare for an experienced and Board Certified plastic surgeon to botch a procedure, the majority of surgeries – if they go wrong – can be corrected.
We don’t know who Jenner’s surgeon was at the time of his facelift, but what we do know is that if he was unhappy with his results, he had every right to request a correction procedure.
A new rumor is circulating that Jenner has reportedly shaved his Adam’s apple this week to give his neck a softer and more youthful appearance. The procedure, known as a laryngeal shave, is usually performed on patients who are in the initial stages of gender reassignment. This, in turn has sparked a new wave of rumors questioning Jenner’s sexual orientation and identity.
Kris quickly shot those rumors down, but it seems Jenner just can’t catch a break. What the real focus should be on is whether or not Jenner is happy. Plastic surgery procedures are intended to help increase an individual’s self esteem and if Jenner is content with his results, then that is the only thing that matters. Top of ForBottom of Form
