Do you hate looking in the mirror because of your double chin? Aesthetic issues like this can be hard to get off your mind, and they can be even harder to get rid of. Some people try for months to get rid of their double chin through dieting and exercise, only to find that their efforts have yielded no results.
If you’re tired of feeling self-conscious about the way you look because of your double chin, our team at Shafer Clinic Fifth Avenue can provide you with the care you need. We have helped numerous patients in the New York area regain their comfort with their appearance using Kybella.
What Is Kybella?
Kybella is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment specifically designed to destroy fat cells under the chin. This treatment enhances the appearance of a person’s profile, reducing submental fullness and getting rid of their double chin.
Kybella’s formula contains a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid. This substance is found naturally in the body. It is responsible for breaking down dietary fat cells so that they can be absorbed and expelled from the body. Kybella utilizes the power of deoxycholic acid to target fat underneath the chin and destroy it permanently.
The Kybella Injection Process
All of our Kybella treatments are performed at our plastic surgery and laser center located in the New York area. In order to mark where the injections will be made, a temporary tattoo will be used in the area underneath the chin. This resembles a grid and allows Dr. Shafer to make precise injections. A numbing solution is also applied to the area to reduce any discomfort caused by the injections.
Over the course of the treatment, multiple injections will be made. Small breaks will be taken in between each sequence of injections. Once the Kybella is injected, it will latch onto the fat cells in the area and start to break them down until they are completely destroyed. This chemical process takes time and may cause temporary discomfort.
What to Expect
In most cases, it will take more than one Kybella treatment session to fully achieve the patient’s desired results. The exact number of treatments will vary from patient to patient and will heavily depend on the size of the area and the amount of fat that needs to be eliminated.
After a treatment has been performed, a degree of bruising and swelling may occur in the region but should not persist past a few days. Since Kybella is a non-surgical treatment, there is no recovery period, though some patients may need a few hours of downtime immediately following their treatment.
